Humber River Health (HRH) is one of Canada’s largest acute care hospitals, fully digital, and serving a diverse catchment area of more than 850,000 people in the northwest Greater Toronto Area. HRH is a 1.8 million square foot facility that operates 729 acute inpatient beds with 4,400 staff, approximately 800 physicians, and over 1,000 volunteers. HRH also includes the Reactivation Care Centres (RCCs) at the Finch and Church Campuses which represent a unique partnership among multiple hospitals in the GTA with an emphasis on delivery of specialized care, focused on reactivation to patients who have been designated as Alternative Level of Care.

In this exciting role reporting to the Corporate Director Human Resources, the Director Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness(OHSW) will lead the development, implementation and management of comprehensive health, safety and wellness programs and to ensure compliance with all legislative requirements related to the health, safety and wellness of the workers at Humber River Health. 

In this very important role, the incumbent will provide executive leadership and oversight to ensure the implementation of strategies that promote a safe, healthy, and productive workplace. This includes reducing the frequency and severity of workplace accidents and minimizing employee time lost due to illness or injury. The Director will oversee the development and maintenance of quality management initiatives aligned with HRH standards. They will fulfill financial and operational responsibilities, support the organization’s mission and vision, and perform cross-functional duties as required.

With an undergraduate degree in a health relevant field (nursing, health administration, wellness, hospital administration), the incumbent will have at least 5-8 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare support services, including labour relations experience. They will preferrable also be a health & safety specialist with a recognized professional organization and they will have preferably completed the Canadian Health Executive (CHE) and/or Risk Management certified which are both preferred.
