Vice President, Public Affairs & National Policy | Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters

Ottawa

Hybrid

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) is a national, member-driven community of manufacturers working together to help businesses grow, compete, and succeed. Since 1871, CME has been a trusted and influential voice for the sector, shaping public policy and supporting companies in navigating economic and regulatory challenges. Through a combination of advocacy—strengthening manufacturing’s voice with governments—and hands-on programs that enhance productivity, develop talent, and expand into new markets, CME helps manufacturers build stronger businesses and contribute to a more resilient Canadian economy.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President, Public Affairs & National Policy is a highly visible enterprise leader responsible for shaping and advancing the national policy, advocacy, and communications agenda at a pivotal time for Canada’s manufacturing sector. The role defines and executes an integrated strategy to influence federal legislation, elevate the organization’s public positioning, and strengthen its standing as the leading voice of industry, while serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and a key representative with government, media, and stakeholders. Internally, the VP aligns national and regional priorities, leads a multidisciplinary team, and contributes meaningfully to executive leadership and Board-level discussions, with a clear mandate to drive measurable impact and sector-wide influence.

The ideal candidate is a senior public affairs leader with deep experience in federal policy and advocacy, bringing the credibility, judgment, and presence to influence decision-makers and represent the sector at the highest levels. They combine strategic thinking with strong execution, translating complex policy issues into clear, compelling narratives, and building trusted relationships across government, industry, and member organizations. A collaborative and outcomes-oriented leader, they have a track record of developing high-performing teams and advancing cohesive strategies in dynamic environments, supported by direct experience in or alongside federal politics and a strong understanding of the issues shaping Canadian manufacturing.
