Director Labour Relations, Humber River Health

Humber River Health (HRH) is one of Canada’s largest acute care hospitals, fully digital, and serving a diverse catchment area of more than 850,000 people in the northwest Greater Toronto Area. HRH is a 1.8 million square foot facility that operates 729 acute inpatient beds with 4,400 staff, approximately 800 physicians, and over 1,000 volunteers. HRH also includes the Reactivation Care Centres (RCCs) at the Finch and Church Campuses which represent a unique partnership among multiple hospitals in the GTA with an emphasis on delivery of specialized care, focused on reactivation to patients who have been designated as Alternative Level of Care.

In this exciting role reporting to the Corporate Director Human Resources, the Director Labour Relations will provide Human Resources and Labour Relations related advice, governance, and services aligned with organizational strategies and priorities that meet legal, regulatory, collective agreements, and policy requirements and best practices. The Director Labour Relations provides leadership and strategic oversight in the development and implementation of employee and labour relations practices that support the business needs of all Hospital client groups.

With a Masters degree in a relevant field, the incumbent will have at least 5-8 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare support services, including labour relations experience. They are responsible for identifying labour-related issues, ensuring the consistent and fair administration of policies and collective agreements, providing expert HR advice, and leading collective bargaining processes. The Director formulates labour relations strategies, negotiates grievances that progress beyond Step 2, and represents the Hospital in arbitrations and legal proceedings. Additionally, the role provides corporate-level recommendations and guidance on employee and labour relations matters and assumes overall responsibility for the Hospital’s employee and labour relations portfolio.
