Head of School, The Country Day School
King City, ON
The Country Day School (CDS) invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of School, to take office in the summer of 2027.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational, independent, university-preparatory day school for 830 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Located in King City, just an hour north of Toronto, CDS sits on a beautiful 100-acre campus, and is home to an inspiring team of faculty and staff and highly motivated students who love their school community. The school’s mission – to provide “Education with Balance” – is brought to life in everything CDS does. With a challenging academic program and extensive co-curricular offerings that include athletics, arts, service, and outdoor education, the school’s focus is on developing the full potential of the balanced student. The school enjoys outstanding facilities, a strong and committed Board of Directors, and a deeply engaged and enthusiastic parent body.
The Head of School will be a respected educational leader and experienced administrator who aligns with CDS’ philosophy of Education with Balance. Bringing an understanding of cohesive JK-12 programming, they will ensure a seamless and progressive student experience – one that is developmentally aligned, academically rigorous, and responsive to the evolving needs of learners at every stage. With a track record of fostering a dynamic and healthy school community, they will mentor and develop staff and faculty, and encourage students to be their very best. A deep commitment to a balanced student experience will guide their decision-making and strategic direction.
The Head will bring strong business acumen and a commercial lens to the role, ensuring financial sustainability and the School’s long-term success. Above all, the Head will be a relationship builder, with a deep and abiding connection to faculty, staff, and students and a genuine interest in their lives. They will have the skills and experience to engage all members of the school community in creating a blueprint for CDS’s future and to inspire, support, and empower the community in pursuit of this vision. The Head of The Country Day School will be a person of exceptional integrity and character, with superb interpersonal skills and the ability to forge deep, meaningful relationships across the school community.
CDS is deeply committed to its caring culture and its reputation as a place where all members of the community have a voice. Its new leader will embody that culture – working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and the Board to take the school to even greater success.
Applications are encouraged immediately and should be submitted, ideally, by May 8, 2026. The Committee’s consideration of candidates will commence in late May. The new Head of School will take office in the summer of 2027. Nominations, inquiries, and accommodation requests should be directed to Julia Robarts and Gaiana Chan of Odgers at cdshead@odgers.com.
