Board Directors & Community Members | William Osler Health System
Applications are invited for the positions of Board Directors and Community Members at William Osler Health System (Osler). Osler is a leading hospital system serving more than 1.3 million people in Brampton, North Etobicoke, Caledon and surrounding communities – one of the most culturally diverse, fastest growing areas in Ontario. Accredited with Exemplary Standing, Accreditation Canada’s highest rating for a Canadian hospital, Osler includes Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial), a Reactivation Care Unit and a Withdrawal Management Centre. Building on a legacy of clinical excellence and innovation and home to the Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation, Osler is planning for the future with transformative developments, including the new Peel Memorial Hospital and as the primary clinical partner for Toronto Metropolitan University's new School of Medicine in Brampton. With an annual budget of approximately $1.3 billion, Osler offers a wide range of health services, with high quality care provided by skilled, professional, multidisciplinary teams.
Osler is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by a skilled and effective executive leadership team, working in close partnership with Patient and Family Partners and Osler’s Patient and Family Advisory Council to ensure care, decisions, and priorities remain grounded in the lived experiences of those it serves. As Osler is evolving and expanding, the Board must match the growth of the organization by adding additional directors and planning for future vacancies when terms have expired. As a member of the Board, and in contributing to the collective achievement of the role of the Board, the Director acts in good faith and in the best interests of the hospital and, in so doing, supports Osler in fulfilling its mission and discharging its accountabilities. The respective Board Directors will be seasoned, having demonstrated strong contributions at the Board room table in complex organizations, and will establish a healthy, innovative, and dynamic Board culture for Osler. Community Members participate at the Board Committee level and are engaged, and passionate individuals committed to improving health care outcomes in the community. They demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with committee members and the Board of Directors. As a community representative, they advocate for the diverse needs and perspectives of local residents, ensuring that committee recommendations align with the highest standards of patient care, fiscal responsibility, and organizational integrity.
To meet respective key competencies required on the Board, the ideal Directors and Community Members should actively contribute skills and expertise in the areas of: finance and accounting (and have a CPA designation); communications/government relations/public relations; information technology/innovation; or Black Health, coupled with proven governance expertise and personal characteristics and/or lived experience reflecting the diverse communities that Osler serves. The Board has a strong preference for candidates who currently or used to reside or work in Peel, North Etobicoke, Bolton, Caledon or Malton, or those whose lived experience reflects the community and who are deeply committed to the broader health care community; and most importantly are keenly interested in quality and accessible patient care and health care provision facilitated through digital transformation.
