Reporting to the Commissioner, Community Services, this role provides corporate leadership and operational oversight of the Municipal Law Enforcement Division, ensuring the effective administration and enforcement of the Town’s regulatory by-laws and community standards. The Director leads divisional staff in setting priorities and service standards, and is responsible for the development, interpretation, and implementation of by-laws related to property standards, zoning compliance, animal services, parking enforcement, licensing, and other municipal regulations. The role ensures enforcement strategies are fair, consistent, and aligned with Council’s strategic objectives, including oversight of complex and sensitive matters, proactive compliance initiatives, and effective public engagement and complaint resolution. The Director is accountable for workforce planning, staff development, and performance management, while advancing innovation and service excellence, and serves as the Commissioner’s representative at Council and in discussions with key stakeholders and external partners.
With a post-secondary degree in public administration, law, criminology, business, or a closely related field, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in municipal law enforcement, regulatory compliance, public safety, or a related environment, including 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience at a senior level. The candidate will bring significant management experience within a municipal or public sector setting, along with demonstrated supervisory expertise leading diverse teams in a complex regulatory framework. The candidate will possess strong political acuity and sound judgment, with the ability to make decisions involving sensitive enforcement matters and long-term operational impacts. The candidate will also embody and advocate for the Town’s mission, vision, and corporate values while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Given the operational nature of the role, you may be required to work additional hours or varying schedule outside of the normal business hours.
Expected Compensation Range: $177,961.65 – $222,452.06 CAD
