Vice President, Digital Strategy and Information Technology Services | Legal Aid Ontario

Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is one of the largest providers of legal services in North America. LAO is committed to advancing access to justice for low income Ontarians through innovative, client focused, transparent, and accountable service delivery. Technology plays a central role in enabling LAO to deliver efficient, effective, and high quality legal services across the province.

The Vice President, Digital Strategy and Information Technology Services is a newly created executive role that provides enterprise leadership for LAO’s digital and technology environment. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a member of the executive team, the VP is accountable for IT operations, digital strategy, cybersecurity, system architecture, and the modernization of technology that underpins all aspects of LAO’s service delivery. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and resilience of mission critical systems that support more than one million client services annually, spanning intake, case management, front line legal services, client and lawyer portals, contact centres, LAO staff in courthouses, community legal clinics, and back office operations.

As a key executive leader, the VP will guide LAO through a period of significant transformation, overseeing the modernization of long standing legacy systems and the delivery of major initiatives, including the replacement of the organization’s client solution platform. The role shapes LAO’s digital future by aligning technology investments with business priorities, client and lawyer experience goals, and operational realities, while strengthening cyber and infrastructure capabilities and advancing the responsible use of emerging technologies. Success in the role requires balancing operational excellence with innovation in a complex, high volume public sector environment.

The ideal candidate is an experienced senior technology leader with a proven track record of leading digital transformation in complex, service driven organizations. They bring deep expertise in IT operations, digital strategy, cybersecurity, and enterprise systems, along with strong people leadership skills in a mixed union and non union environment. Credible, collaborative, and strategically minded, they are able to engage effectively with legal, operational, and executive stakeholders, translate business needs into technology solutions, and lead highly specialized teams through change. Experience in the public sector or other highly regulated environments is strongly preferred.

This is a publicly advertised competition for a newly created executive role. The salary range for this position is $192,324 to $229,040, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the Public Service Pension Plan, health and dental coverage, and generous vacation entitlements.
