Director, Finance, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences

Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) is a public teaching hospital providing specialized assessment, treatment, and recovery‑focused mental health services to individuals living with complex and serious mental illness. With more than 100 years of history, Ontario Shores has evolved into a provincial and national leader in innovative, evidence‑based mental health care. Patient care at Ontario Shores is delivered through safe, evidence‑informed, and recovery‑oriented approaches, grounded in compassion, inspiration, and hope. Today, Ontario Shores is widely recognized for its leadership in mental health system innovation, research, education, and advocacy. The organization actively shares its expertise with healthcare providers, community partners, and policy makers to strengthen Ontario’s mental health system and improve access to high‑quality care across the province. As an academic and teaching hospital, Ontario Shores plays a critical role in training the next generation of mental health professionals and advancing applied research. The organization collaborates with academic institutions, healthcare partners, and national organizations to drive innovation in areas such as quality standards, clinical outcomes, data analytics, and measurement‑based care.

Reporting to the EVP, Finance and Support Services, CFO, CIO, the Director, Finance will lead core financial operations, including reporting, budgeting, and planning, while serving as a trusted advisor to leaders across the organization. This is a compelling opportunity for a seasoned healthcare finance leader to step into a re-established role within a highly respected, mission-driven mental health organization. With a strong and capable finance team in place, the role is designed to enable focus on quality, insight, and strategic partnership – providing the opportunity to elevate how finance supports decision-making at both the operational and enterprise level. At a time of continued evolution and investment in leadership capacity, the Director will play a key role in strengthening financial reporting to the Board and Ministry, supporting clinical and operational leaders, and ensuring financial discipline aligns with Ontario Shores’ recovery-oriented mission. For the right leader, this is an opportunity to have meaningful impact – shaping financial strategy, influencing organizational direction, and contributing to the long-term sustainability of specialized mental health care.

The ideal candidate is a CPA‑designated finance leader with progressive experience in healthcare or the broader public sector, bringing both strategic perspective and operational discipline. They are known for their ability to take complex concepts, translate them into clear plans, and execute with confidence. While experience with hospital or ministry reporting, budgeting, and performance management is important, success in this role will ultimately be defined by leadership maturity – sound judgment, credibility, and the ability to get things done. This individual leads with trust, not micromanagement, and brings a collaborative, coaching‑oriented style that builds confidence and capability in others. They are skilled at working across disciplines – partnering effectively with clinical leaders, research, technology, and peer directors – and are comfortable supporting leaders with varying levels of financial literacy. Curious and open‑minded, they are motivated to learn the business deeply and to draw out the existing strengths of a capable team, positioning finance as an engaged, respected, and value‑adding partner across the organization.
