The Director, Capital Projects, is accountable for providing strategic leadership for a team of highly trained and skilled professionals responsible for managing capital projects required to achieve the University’s academic and research objectives. As part of the Facilities Management Division’s leadership team, the Director will contribute to Western’s campus by developing the multi-year capital improvement plan and strategies which advance the long-term resiliency of the institution. The Director will offer expertise in all aspects of capital projects, and ensure the effective communication, collaboration and alignment of resources to best support the project delivery.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced capital projects and infrastructure leader with a proven track record of delivering large, complex construction and renewal programs within a university, healthcare, research, municipal, or similarly complex institutional environment. They will bring experience managing significant capital budgets, leading multidisciplinary teams, and overseeing projects through planning, design, and construction. As a leader, they will demonstrate strategic thinking, sound judgment, and strong stakeholder management skills. They communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives, board members, consultants, contractors, and government partners, while building trusted relationships across the organization. They inspire and develop high-performing teams, foster collaboration and accountability, and remain focused on delivering successful outcomes.
