New Generations School (NGS) represents a rare opportunity to help build a new public charter school from the ground up and shape its educational model, culture and long-term impact. Opening in northeast Calgary through a phased implementation beginning in September 2027, NGS will ultimately serve approximately 1,900 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and is designed to respond to the needs of one of Canada's fastest-growing and most diverse communities. Founded on the belief that every student deserves both high expectations and high levels of support, NGS is committed to helping students discover their potential, pursue meaningful pathways, and thrive academically, socially, and personally.

NGS is being built as a highly collaborative institution, drawing on partnerships across public education, post-secondary institutions, industry and community organizations to bring the best available expertise and opportunities to students. As a public charter school, NGS also intends to contribute back to Alberta’s broader public education system by sharing what it learns, building partnerships with other school authorities, and helping advance promising approaches to teaching and learning.

NGS invites applications for two leadership positions: Superintendent and Principal.

Superintendent

As NGS’s chief executive and education officer, the Superintendent will lead the successful launch and long-term development of NGS, translating the Board’s vision and strategic direction into organizational priorities, disciplined execution, and measurable results. Accountable to the Board for the educational, operational, financial, and organizational performance of the school authority, the Superintendent will build the leadership capacity, systems, structures, and culture needed to establish and scale a high-performing, mission-aligned institution. The Superintendent will champion educational excellence and student outcomes; establish strong organizational safeguarding and other accountabilities; ensure financial sustainability, operational readiness, risk management and regulatory compliance; foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement; and steward public and organizational resources responsibly. As NGS grows from start-up to full implementation, the Superintendent will serve as the Board’s primary strategic and executive advisor and link between governance and management, while building trusted relationships with government, regulators, other school authorities, community, industry and post-secondary partners, positioning NGS as a credible and collaborative contributor to Alberta’s public education system, and strengthening NGS’s institutional credibility and readiness for sustainable growth.

The ideal candidate will bring progressive senior executive leadership experience in education, with a demonstrated ability to build, transform, scale, or operationalize organizations through periods of significant growth, change, and complexity. They will combine strategic planning and disciplined execution with strong governance and Board partnership, organizational leadership, and a track record of developing high-performing teams and building leadership capacity. The successful candidate will be an effective relationship-builder who can establish trusted partnerships while representing NGS with credibility and sound judgment. They will bring the adaptability required to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and complex stakeholder environments, together with a strong commitment to educational excellence, organizational sustainability, and mission-aligned institutional growth. Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain the certificate requirements and be eligible to serve as a Superintendent in Alberta according to the Superintendent of Schools Regulation.

Principal

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Principal will lead the successful launch and ongoing development of an exceptional, pluralistic K–12 learning environment that delivers strong student outcomes and an outstanding student and family experience. As a founding academic school leader, the Principal will shape a deeply rooted, mission-aligned school culture in which every student is known, challenged, supported, and proud to belong. They will lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the NGS educational model while responding effectively to the needs of multilingual learners, newcomers, and students with diverse learning needs. The Principal will establish high standards for curriculum, instruction and assessment – with a strong focus on foundational literacy and numeracy, and a culture of evidence-informed practice and continuous improvement; build and lead a high-performing and collaborative team; oversee student well-being, safeguarding and support systems; build strong partnerships with families and the broader community; and ensure the academic, people and operational systems required for a successful school launch and sustainable growth are in place.

The successful candidate will bring several years of experience leading in a school, ideally as a principal or comparable educational leader. Experience building, launching, transforming, or significantly scaling a school, program, or educational initiative is a significant asset. They will bring a demonstrated ability to establish strong school cultures, develop educators and leaders, and deliver strong student outcomes across both learning and well-being. The ideal candidate will have experience serving diverse, multilingual and/or newcomer student populations and building trusted relationships with families and community partners across different cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Collaborative and mission-driven, they will be comfortable building in ambiguity and navigating rapid growth while establishing the systems, routines, teams and leadership capacity required for a high-performing school. Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain Alberta Leadership Certification.
